The role of Editor in chief in face of the current scenario

This presentation will address the familiar challenges for the Editors-in-Chief of journals in the face of rapidly evolving publication environment. I will consider the challenges of creating and maintaining an efficient editorial office that delivers to both authors and publishers and safeguards the reputations of all concerned. I will highlight the need for a dashboard of key journal metrics to facilitate awareness and ensure changes can be made in a timely way. Technological advances provide new tools and opportunities for EIC of journals to exploit. The surge towards open access and the spawning of new and predatory journals, preprint repositories present difficult decisions for EIC and publishers who must differentiate themselves from the predatory journals whilst balancing risks and advantages of new publication models to ensure financial viability.
