Margaret Perkins

  • Margaret Perkins, the Director of Manuscript Editing at the New England Journal of Medicine, has worked in scholarly publishing for more than 30 years. Before joining NEJM, she was the chief manuscript editor for the journals division at the University of Chicago Press, where she managed the editing of four journals. During her time in Chicago, she also taught medical editing courses at the University of Chicago Graham School’s award-winning Medical Writing and Editing Program (1999–2002). She was a contributor to the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed., and served on the external advisory board for the 16th edition. She has served as the course organizer for the Council of Science Editors’ Short Course for Manuscript Editors (2003–2008), as director of the Short Courses (2016–2017), and as a member of the CSE program and education committees.
